Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Slams General Motors for Disrespecting Black-Owned Media Brands: ‘If You Love United States, Pay United States’

The move follows the placement of a full-page advertisement in Sunday’s Detroit Free Press, in which the leaders of Black-owned media business– including Byron Allen and Ice Cube– implicated GM CEO Mary Barra of racism for refusing to consult with them to go over marketing chances.

According to the Detroit Free Press, the advertisement, which was signed by the heads of 7 Black-owned media companies, declares that Barra declined to consult with them “regularly, gradually and after numerous demands.” They likewise requested for an hour-long Zoom meeting with Barra, or her resignation.

Combs referrals that advertisement in his letter, which keeps in mind that “While REVOLT does get marketing earnings from GM, our relationship is not an example of success. No longer can Corporate America manipulate our neighborhood into believing that incremental development is appropriate action.

Corporations like General Motors have exploited our culture, undermined our power, and omitted Black business owners from getting involved in the value produced by Black consumers. In 2019, brand names spent $239 billion on marketing. Less than 1% of that was purchased Black-owned media business. Out of the approximately $3 billion General Motors invested in advertising, we approximate just $10 million was invested in Black-owned media. Just $10 million out of $3 billion! Like the rest of corporate America, General Motors is telling us to sit down, shut up and be delighted with what we get.

It’s ill-mannered that Black-owned media companies only represent 1% of the total advertising market. It’s ill-mannered that distributors refuse to bring Black-owned media brands in an era where our impact and impact is indisputable. It’s ill-mannered that the same community that represents 14% of the population and invests over $1.4 trillion each year is still the most economically undervalued and underserved at every level. To repeat, $1.4 TRILLION ANNUALLY! The Almighty Black Dollar!

We require that Business America reinvest an equitable portion of what you take from our community back into our neighborhood. If the Black community represents 15% of your revenue, Black-owned media ought to receive a minimum of 15% of the marketing invest.
